[edit] tibia.wikia in other lenguages
hi,
i'm a catalan player and this week I see there is a wiki in catalan. it's empty. i want to edit it but i don't know the way to do it. if you can help me i'll be very grateful.
thanks arnau_alti@hotmail.com 19:02, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
The wiki in Catalan only has 1 page so far, it seems the admin isn't working on it. You can start contributing to it right now, and maybe adopt the wiki later on. Adopting it means you will be the admin of it.
You can create and edit any page you like. However, keep in mind setting up a wiki is ALOT of work at first, when you are all alone.
For general help regarding making edits on a wiki, I suggest you read the following pages:
Hope this helps.. If you have more questions, feel free to ask.

[edit] Categories
i want to try it.
but first i need to create categories. if you have entered in it you have seen there are only the starter categories.
how i can create more? ex: items, quest, etc
arnau_alti@hotmail.com 19:32, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
What exactly do you mean by categories? If you mean the menu (on the left) .. I'm afraid you cannot change this without an admin. The pages to edit the menu are in the MediaWiki namespace, which is protected from editing unless you are an admin.
You can create the page "Items", though, by entering "Items" in the searchbox. It will say the page doesn't exist, click create this page, and you can add information to it. Or click here to go to the page directly.
I am going to bed now, I'll answer any further questions tomorrow. Good luck!

[edit] infobox
hi,
what i need for do an infobox?
arnau_alti@hotmail.com 20:23, 2 October 2008 (UTC)
Infoboxes are merely templates which in most cases, determine parameter values for other pages, you don't "need" anything to use them, but you can't simply throw it on a wiki and expect it to work. There are a few differences, for example some things will only work if that wiki has a certain extension (<spoiler></spoiler> for example)I suppose this depends on what template you're using, some wikis don't have support for dynamic page lists (DPL) so ripping the item template is not an option.
Playing around with templates will be confusing if you're unfamiliar with wikis (or just html/coding in general) it took me a few months to get use to it. However, I would not suggest that you take the templates from here (unless you absolutely must), that allows you to learn from building it rather than merely stealing sources. Of course, you're more than welcome to take it or use them as a guideline. -- Sixorish 23:11, 2 October 2008 (UTC)
thanks for all the information.
i think i won't do this because i don't know html lenguage.
sorry for the time what you spend talking to me.
see you in tibia or in tibia.wikia
arnau_alti@hotmail.com 16:19, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
I think everyone who helped you, enjoys helping people, so don't worry about it.
It's hard to start something if you dont have any knowledge about it, yes. However, you can learn if you want to. Search the internet for "html tutorial" or "basic html" to get an understanding how HTML works, if you want to.
I'll try to help you to the best of my knowledge if you have any further questions.

[edit] sv.tibia.wikia
Thx for helping me, I'll try your template instead. I still have some problems adding a brand new template, it only confuses me to be honest. I also tried to make a list but it wont read all templates :S So I'm really glad you helped me. I've seen the dutch wiki and I must say that I'm impressed and I would like to expand the swedish wiki to. But it's really hard in the beggining with all new templates needed to be added.
Nofeer 15:48, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
Have a look at this link to give you some more basic information about templates. Also read the pages linked on that page.
You are free to ask me questions if you need help, but I don't like doing all the work. So if you have a question (regarding templates or other stuff), let me know what you want exactly and what you have already tried. I can then most likely tell you what you've done wrong and how you should do it, hoping you learn from it :)
--Temahk (Talk • Contribs) 16:14, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
Yes ofcause you don't want to make it for me... and I understands that aswell, it woudn't be fun for anyone of us then. Although I think, and hope, I just have to pass some kind of barrier. As soon as I realize how it works it all will go much smother.

[edit] I found a text in Rookgaard
Well, serching for the spike sword quest in rookgaard i found a Document, wich dont appear at the wikki. I'd like to investigate more abaut it, but im asking for a little help. my character name is Merideth, and it is in lunara, i create a wiki and put there an screenchoot of the item and of what it says. the name of the page is Document(Fishing_Award).
Fake. Why is the "Awarded" person in Jamera and has never logged on? I thought this was in Lunara? -- Sixorish 05:23, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
I can only think of 2 explanations: Either you are a very good imposer and faked the whole thing. Or this is something we don't know about. But: why would such a (probably quest reward) thing be on rookgaard, it would be more likely in main. And the thing, TFA, like TBI? Weird :S (which means disputed) ^^ Bennie (talk ~ fellows) ^^ 05:36, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
Where did you actually find this document, what exact location?
I am also moving the page to match the naming standards.
--Temahk (Talk • Contribs) 06:00, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
Lets continue the discussion on the talk page of the item. Talk:Document (Fishing Award).

The {{{subst|}}} is taken by parameter, and even using the parameter does not work as it is intended to, I think removing the subst wouldn't hurt it? -- Sixorish 17:27, 13 October 2008 (UTC)
{{subst:User:Temahk/Sandbox13|subst=subst:}}
Hehe test

and the message is {{{1}}}
That seems to work actually .. {{{1}}} wasn't working but it just needs empty parameters I guess (was expecting it to use |subst~) -- Sixorish 17:40, 13 October 2008 (UTC)
On a side note, since it should always be substituted, and {{{1}}} is always used, don't you think {{#if:{{{1|}}}|subst:}} would be better? -- Sixorish 17:43, 13 October 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Error
When I was deleting an image (well, spamming it a bit while deleting 10 images quite fast) I got this error:
A database query syntax error has occurred. This may indicate a bug in the software. The last attempted database query was:
(SQL query hidden)
from within function "Article::updateCategoryCounts". MySQL returned error "1213: Deadlock found when trying to get lock; try restarting transaction (10.8.2.48)".
You know what that means? ^^ Bennie (talk ~ fellows) ^^ 20:35, 16 October 2008 (UTC)
P.S. het boeit verder niet veel, maar ik vond het wel grappig.
"A deadlock is a situation wherein two or more competing actions are waiting for the other to finish, and thus neither ever does." quoted from wikipedia:Deadlock.
Apparently something went wrong while you were trying to delete the image. Someone else might wanted to delete, access, or change the image. Or the software itself was updating something regarding the image.
Nothing serious I guess.

[edit] Rareness
"Ultra Rare" who said that im only allowed to use very rare and semi-rare? there are things you cant discribe with semi and very soem things are kinda more rare that very (for example spikesword in pirateghosts i loot many more redrobes than spikeswords but redrobes are kinda very rare also so how should i call it then? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Odial (talk • contribs). Remember to sign your comments!
Rareness, have a look. It is within this community accepted to use either nothing, "semi-rare", "rare" or "very rare" to indicate the rareness of an item.

[edit] Template:Infobox Book
Seems it doesn't work with |List= (probably because it has no {{#ifeq:{{{list|}}}|~}}) I tried to play around with it in a sandbox Infobox / Book. I'm probably just too tired and the problem is obvious ..but if you can't work it out, the documentation will need a slight change.
PS: You have some tests over @ User talk:Temahk/Calculations -- Sixorish 04:35, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
| The Awakening of the Gods 1 | Describes the self-creation of the Tibia Gods and explains their nature. |
| Selfmade Skeletons | Selfmade Skeletons By BH |
| The Awakening of the Gods 2 | Continues the story of the creation and nature of the Tibia gods. |
| The magic of the Ghouls | The magic of the Ghouls |
First two are using the new thingie (with |List={{{list}}}), the last 2 are using the "old" system. The /List and the pages itself are displayed properly. So it's fixed and nothing has been broken.
You had "list" instead of "List", not sure if this was the cause of breaking things. Also at the end, you screwed up by using forwarding booktype as [[Image:{{{booktype}}}.gif]], while the /List automaticly also adds the [[Image:.gif]] thing..
I've fixed all, should be working properly now. There is no need to spam all book pages, yet again, the old system works. However if you happen to encounter a book page, feel free to "fix" it of course.

[edit] Random info
Did you know DPL lists don't transclude categories? I just realized half the armor's categories weren't in noinclude tags but weren't effecting the pages transcluding it. Course that doesn't mean it's OK to leave 'em out, it's just interesting is all. -- Sixorish 04:33, 21 November 2008 (UTC)
DPL isn't the only time an armor page gets transcluded. If you use {{:Studded Armor|List}} for example, the category WILL be transcluded I think. Therefore they should be in noinclude tags always. Or make a parameter adjustment to the template, so automaticly add a category. Not sure if this will be worth it, since it would require a ton of edits yet again.
Read up on DPL, and you would have known already, btw.
Temahk 10:50, 21 November 2008 (UTC)
I said that the DPL doesn't transclude the categories, which striked me as odd because transclusion = the entire page, not just part of it's contents. -- Sixorish 10:57, 21 November 2008 (UTC)
DPL doesn't transclude. Not in that way, at least.
Temahk 10:58, 21 November 2008 (UTC)
Btw, <br /> is perfectly valid HTML, it closes the element in the tag which opens it (which is a must for elements which have no closing, if you want to validate a website..), the wiki automatically does this when generating pages (view source), but still it's nice to get use to. -- Sixorish 00:04, 23 November 2008 (UTC)
I think that's not true (your last statement, sixh). <br> is HTML, and <br/> is xHTML. When I first read about XML, I began to use the <br/> version also on this wiki, but people reverted those edits and said it wasn't proper html. ^^ Bennie (talk ~ fellows) ^^ 20:19, 23 November 2008 (UTC)
You're right partially, both will work, the reason why <br /> is more suitable is because HTML validators consider an element left open "invalid" and produce a warning, it doesn't effect the page in any way but it removes one warning occurring when people who use the FF extension view the page. (here is a list of elements in HTML 4.01). If it weren't proper (X)HTML the wiki would be coded to not automatically close any line break elements. -- Sixorish 20:43, 23 November 2008 (UTC)
(random comparison: the wiki has 1-5~ errors/warnings per page, tibia.com has around 300 on each) - Sixorish 20:46, 23 November 2008 (UTC)
Ok, are you talking about this extension? I just installed it and it says 3 warnings, so you're right. But is your point, it is better to use br, it is better to use br/ or it doesn't matter, both can be used? ^^ Bennie (talk ~ fellows) ^^ 21:02, 23 November 2008 (UTC)
Both can be used, even if the wiki software didn't automatically close them it would work (but it would generate a warning, which also means nothing but it can be avoided with no negative effects..), and I'm not sure if that's the extension I use, but it looks identical. I just downloaded mine from the firefox addon page -- Sixorish 21:09, 23 November 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks
Thanks for your comment on my talk page on my parody Creatures I really appreciate it. ^_^ btw what did you think of Walnut? He’s a parody of Peanut, one of Jeff Dunham's puppets.
And on a side not how did you know so quickly after I edited the page? Is there a way to see brand new edits to any page?
Regards,
Jake
Jeff Dunham is great at what he does, Peanut is a great character. About Walnut.. I don't think it's funny actually, but I find alot of things not funny, don't worry.
You could add | hidetemplate = yes to it, so the overview of monsters (bottom) will not be displayed.
The brand new edit thing: Special:RecentChanges.

[edit] Thanks
On Thanksgiving Day we’re thankful for
Our blessings all year through,
For family we dearly love,
For good friends, old and new.
For sun to light and warm our days,
For stars that glow at night,
For trees of green and skies of blue,
And puffy clouds of white.
We’re grateful for our eyes that see
The beauty all around,
For arms to hug, and legs to walk,
And ears to hear each sound.
The list of all we’re grateful for
Would fill a great big book;
Our thankful hearts find new delights
Everywhere we look!
Oh wait, you don't celebrate thanksgiving there .. drat! (this is for spamming my talk page all those other times, consider it revenge if you will). -- Sixorish 10:36, 27 November 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Loot stats
Wow, what a great page you've made! It took me some time but I have just finished sorting them using Notepad++, the ones I have are from before the server log so I'll give you a small part, the document was almost 4000 lines... Well, I hope this helps. :)
([1] pastebin)
beejay 02:47, 7 July 2009 (UTC)
The page will be able to analyse the file even unsorted, you can simple paste anything in it. I moved the lines to pastebin.com, didn't think it would take up that much space.. oh well ;) I'll have to manually check some of the monsters to make sure the page analyses it properly. Thank you!
Temahk 10:31, 7 July 2009 (UTC)
Your logfile has proven to be useful! Fixed the following:
- Displaying full name when there is no "a" in front of name (brass legs for example)
- Properly indexing items with "an", the same way as "a"
- Fixed issue with words ending "y", plural "ies". Will now add them properly and create a proper wiki link

I thought I'd try to give you plenty to work with without trying to give you too much. I'm glad it helped you fix some things! :) beejay 11:30, 7 July 2009 (UTC)
- It's just something small but the wiki markup on your page is missing the "}}" tags beejay 13:02, 7 July 2009 (UTC)
- I removed the 'Total gold' thing, as Bennie suggested. But this also removed the "}}". Re-added them, thanks! Temahk 13:26, 7 July 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, I just noticed you put it back :) Thanks too! beejay 13:43, 7 July 2009 (UTC)
[edit] Monster page edits
Hey since you gona eddit every single monster page, could you also do some extra work: Checking sounds have ; after every sound and . in the end <> check if max damage is ok <> checking that the old immuneto weakto strongto template is deleted (and move the info to the new template) <> and also theres 2 lines with no info around the new template for weakness/immune/strong that have to be removed too, if you don't understand what am doing just check my latest eddits on monster pages.
--Kwigon the sharpshooter 13:16, 14 July 2009 (UTC)
I only edited the monsters that already have Loot Statistics, in order to remove duplicate links to the Loot Statistics pages. Template:Infobox Creature will generate the link automatically now. I'm gonna let the job queue do the rest of the pages. As for that new immuneto etc template, I don't like it so I'm not gonna waste my time on it, sorry. Temahk 13:25, 14 July 2009 (UTC)
Oks. By the way am collecting data on what I get from Crate (Usable) You think you can make a page for the stadistics of that? Am usigng like 20 boxes per day.

[edit] loot
Some more issues with your script:
- code doesn't ignore periods, i.e "Loot of a dragon: 3 gold pieces." outputs "3 Gold Pieces.,"
- 'average gold' doesn't pick it up? or I'm using the wrong string
when the first string (i.e loot) is not a countable, it uses an empty link ([[]]) - try 'Loot of a dragon: a'- nvm this one, seems you intended that to avoid including the articles in names
-- Sixorish 22:21, 15 July 2009 (UTC)
- Does the Tibia client use periods? I don't even have Tibia installed myself, therefore I rely on data sent to me by others.
- The 'average gold' bit looks for either 'Gold Coin' or 'Gold Coins' (after capitalising every word and removing articles). If anything needs to be added to the average gold calculation, I need to know the text to look for in order to do so.
- 'A' or 'An' is indeed avoided in the output of the wiki markup, so they don't get added to the links. This seems best behaviour to me, but it can be adjusted of course.
-- Temahk 07:43, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
Hmm, seems it doesn't, would have thought it did. The article mightn't seem a problem, but some names have articles affixed to them, like The Avenger (although that will never be looted from a creature). -- Sixorish 07:58, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
Only 'a' and 'an' are filtered, 'the' will stay. -- Temahk 08:24, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
I think sixorish meant a dot to the end is not removed and the item name will be red linked since a dot is included. ^^ Bennie (talk ~ fellows) ^^ 15:09, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
Actually he understood me fine, but the 'loot' message doesn't contain any periods in-game so it won't occur unless the user places it. I should have checked prior to reporting it tbh, rather than assumed Cip would aim for correctness. About the gold: went to try it and it seems to be fine, not sure what I was trying but I was almost sure it was correct... but it looks like all reports are duds. Whoops! -- Sixorish 16:03, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
In your initial report, you are talking about gold pieces, while the script looks for gold coins, as they are named in-game. I guess that's where #2 came from. -- Temahk 16:32, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
[edit] js?
If you're interested in trying it: perhaps the script is better client-sided by use of JavaScript? It would remove the need of external linking. -- Sixorish 17:12, 21 July 2009 (UTC)
Im not that familiar with js, but one can always learn. I just don't have any clue how one would submit the data and tell the script to actually do something?

wgUserName.intersects is not a function
Don't know why this didn't appear when debugging the code. The script doesn't work. Any ideas? The only difference is that wgUserName is not in an array; maybe this is why it doesn't work? The only other thing I can see is that intersects() can only be used once per function. -- Sixorish3 17:21, 23 July 2009 (UTC)

The '\' character is to escape the ', standard feature of PHP. Theres a command to remove it though, I'll add it next week.
About the other thing, yes it is possible. I'll work on it sometime next week, will let you know when it's done :)

[edit] Tibia Loot Calculator
It seems that your Tibia Loot Calculator has trouble when there are more than ~46.200 lines.
I used http://tibiacalc.vndv.com/loot.php.
<·> Hunter of Dragoes <·> My Talk <·> My Contributions <·> 01:30, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
Actually, I myself was getting errors with around 35k lines. I have posted this before somewhere on this wiki, but was unable to find it back. The problem is, the script has 30 seconds to execute. Once you start uploading your stats, the execution timer starts. If you have a slow connection, uploading takes longer leaving less time to do the math. Second thing, it's a free host with probably multiple websites on the same machine. This can limit calculation time and therefore not finish everything within these 30 seconds. Unfortunately there is no way around this.
I can however write an executable which you will need to download. This executable will run locally on your own computer and will have calculation unlimited time, basicly. However, most users (if not all) don't want to download an executable, afraid of being hacked. That is why I resorted to a website.
If anyone is interested in an executable, please let me know. I will then start writing it and make the source code publicly available. Bear in mind this would be done in C/C++.
