TibiaWiki talk:Policy
From TibiaWiki
This is the policy, but there is also a Privacy Policy in the bottomborder. I don't know what is different from those two,but it has to change, just like the Disclaimers at the bottom of the pages. --Edwin de waterman 10:42, 25 April 2006 (CDT)
Generally, a "Privacy Policy" describes and governs how the site administrators/owners will use any personal information about the site's users.
The Privacy Policy will usually state what information is collected and for what reasons. Then it will state how that information will be used.
Since the wiki software does collect some personal information about the users, it would probably be appropriate to define how that information is used, and explain what is collected. On the other hand, this information is minimal (optional email address and ip address are the most sensitive things collected), and I'm pretty sure that Erig is not using this information outside of the MediaWiki software.
While it would be nice for Erig to write such a policy (it is a good practice for any website), I do not think it is absolutely neccessary in this case. as the wiki continues to grow, it may become more essential to write a privacy policy in order to protect Erig, as well as the site users and contributers.

[edit] Quest Spoiling Policy Proposal
As per a discussion on my talk page, Nagatho Goldenflag and Bennie are proposing that a new formal policy be written concerning quest spoiling information in articles.
[edit] Written Policy
Gleaning what I could from the discussions, I have written the proposed policy as follows:
- All quest spoiling information must be in a quest spoiler article, or be clearly marked.
A possible explanation line may be (subject to revision as necessary):
- All spoilers and spoiling information must be clearly marked so that there is no possible way that a TibiaWiki visitor can unintentionally read any quest spoiling information on any TibiaWiki article.
Because the definitions of "quest spoiling" and "quest spoiler article" are very subjective, and it would not be plausible to enforce this policy with the strict definitions, I have written this policy line in an intentionally vague manner so that it may be interpreted by the wiki admins on a case-by-case basis.
The benefits of having a written formal policy for this concern are as follows:
- The current consensus among regular wiki editors is to enforce this policy, and it has been enforced as an "unwritten policy" for a short while already.
- Additional authority for wiki administrators to enforce this "unwritten policy," helping to preserve the useful and benign nature of the wiki articles
- Being written in the formal policy for the site, this policy can be easily referred to by wiki editors, and is more likely to be read by new and potential contributers.
[edit] Concerning Definitions
To clarify the issue with definitions, I am including my interpretation of a few terms, and their potential variations in meaning. This section does not pertain directly to this policy proposal, but can be used for defining the Standards of quest spoiling in a broad sense in the wiki.
- Quest Spoiling
- Strictly speaking, Quest Spoiling is anything about the game that cannot be learned by reading the Tibia game guides or other pages on the official Tibia website. This definition is not strictly enforced on the wiki (nor should it be), but it can be used as a basis for wiki admins to decide the legitimacy of each issue that arises.
- Quest Spoiler Page/Article
- 1. A quest spoiler page/article could be strictly defined as any article that uses the Spoiler Template. While this is a clear definition, it is not consistent, as many pages that do not use that template contain quest spoiling information.
- 2. "Any page that contains a clear warning of quest spoiling information" can be an expanded definition of a quest spoiling article, but there would need to be monitoring of this to prevent normal articles from being branded as quest spoilers for a small amount of information contained in them.
As stated above, this "Concerning Definition" section does not pertain to this policy proposal, but may be used for defining Standards if this policy is adopted or not.
Please post any discussion, feedback, and/or suggestions for revision that you may have.

[edit] Feedbacks
[edit] Nagatho Goldenflag
Being the former editor who suggested the new Policy paragraph, I feel obligated to add my feedback to the proposal.
I agree totally with the Written Policy, and understand that no specific definition should be added, as each case is a different case.
Still, I believe that some lesser spoiling information (e.g an item being mentioned as the reward of a quest) should be kept on the pages.
No further to add,
Nagatho Goldenflag

[edit] Genosonic
As Nagatho Goldenflag just mentioned, my opinion is to go forward with this Policy. I also agree with Nagatho Goldenflag on leaving "this item pertains to a quest". But note that I use the word pertain, it's because we shouldn't specify in articles not marked as spoilers if either the item is gained from or needed for the quest. And this is obviously to reduce quest spoiling as much as possible where it isn't needed.

[edit] Anti-Cheating Policy
Since the policy/standards don't give any details on whether this is or isn't allowed, I was wondering if images like Image:Latrivan.jpg should be deleted? -- Sixorish 06:01, 14 August 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Change Sugestion
I suggest the following change in the images part, updating with:
# Images. When uploading an image of an in-game object, use .gif. Also try to make sure your images are detailed but don't get too large. Screenshots can be in .jpg or .png, .png is better but also give larger file sizes. Filename extensions should always be in lower-case (.jpg not .JPG).
Is it ok? Please compare it with the original and give some feedback.

That sounds like a concise way to say it. Even though the screenshot guide link is in the help contents box, perhaps also link to it and any other helpful links. --DM ><((°> Contribs <°))>< talk to me 19:37, 12 June 2009 (UTC)
