Template talk:Infobox Book
From TibiaWiki
[edit] New template
This template should help organize the book texts, and make them more accessable, while maintaining the original book formatting.
There should not be any need to place wikilinks in the book text... they should go in the list of "related articles", for quick and easy reference.
There is also a place to type a short blurb about the book content, allowing users to easily see if the book contains what they are looking for (without reading the whole book).
I also plan to make a list template for referencing the book pages easily, removing clutter from the library pages, making them easier to read.

I made some changes, to prevent mass duplicates of books, now whenever a book already exists, and is already on the wiki with a different cover, instead of changing the cover, use
| booktype = (original) | booktype2 = duplicate #1 | booktype3 = duplicate #2and so on, the images will appear next to each other, which is a lot better than a bunch of seperate pages.
I also added "Notes" parameter, you can discuss, for example quest books, or the location if there's duplicates ("Brown thin book found at X")
All book pages are bugged for me, the monaco sidebar moves up to the middle of the page and thus hides the content of it. I try if it has something to do with DM's last edit, otherwise, could someone more technical look at it?

I replaced all the #ifeq's with #if, and changed some if into #ifeq. I also updated how a new page should be created, so all the Infoboxes are the same. It should also allow DPL usage (if needed at a later point).
And a question, would you guys prefer
- |returnbook = somepage
- |returnbook2 = somepage2
- |returnbook3 = somepage3
- |returnbook4 = somepage4
or rather
- |returnbook = somepage, somepage2, somepage3, somepage4?
It's both possible, if you want it changed, let me know (usage of #explode). I could make it without breaking any of the current book pages.
And a last note, maybe the Infobox should be protected too, like all the others.

Thanks for updating the code. I prefer the first option, it's like all other templates on this wiki are built. I think it isn't necessary to protect pages before they get vandalized. When such a thing happens we can just revert and protect it. Protecting a lot of pages causes people to contribute less (at least, that's what the wikia staff says :P).

I forgot to add the end brackets, but it should work with that. The first few books i worked on are correct, but the last few are not. There is no real difference in their code, so i am not certain if it has to do with your revision, Temahk. Also thanks for the Notepad++ recommendation, i will check it out. --DM ><((°> Contribs <°))>< talk to me 20:42, 20 August 2008 (UTC)
I just noticed that too, let me check..
-edit- I forgot a pipe character twice, fixed now :) --Temahk (Talk • Contribs) 20:43, 20 August 2008 (UTC)
Look at the books How to Create Spellbooks (Book) and What Runes are Made Of (Book). The first does not show the returnpage2 and 3, while the second does. they both have the same template. --DM ><((°> Contribs <°))>< talk to me 20:57, 20 August 2008 (UTC)
They both do, in Preview mode at least. The first needed a null-edit, it shows now.

Regarding the protect statement: I don't think it's necessary. If you take a look at the edit history you'd see the page hasn't been a target of vandalism once. People don't care for books nearly as much as say, creatures or items.. But of course if the template won't need to be edited, prevention from future vandalism won't hurt..
Edit: Just realized Bennie said the exact thing, oh well.. -- Sixorish 22:50, 20 August 2008 (UTC)
