[edit] Rewrite

I think this page needs to be re-written. In its current form, it appears to tout the great things bots can do for you (even though it say "Do not use bots").

I do not think there is any reason to describe all of the specific types of bots or describe them in any detail. It should be sufficient to define what a bot is and state very clearly what CIP's official stance on the topic is. Any more information than that appears to promote their use.

Unlike Scams, knowing more about a bot does not allow you to counteract their effects or to protect yourself from other players' use of them.

I think we need to combine all forms of Cheating (the current 'cheating' is a redirect to 'Tibia Rules' onto one page, there is both a Cheat Tool page and Bot page on the wiki, Both pages serve the same purpose. --Sixorish 23:31, 25 May 2007 (PDT)

I could add a 'botterkilling'-guide. Is that appropiate on Tibiawiki? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by SnowFire (talkcontribs). Remember to sign your comments!

I suppose you mean non pvp style, lure and trap etc.
I don't think this is appropiate as it is some kind of rule violation in the game (destructive behaviour).

Botter killing guides non pvp are dangerous to make public knowledge as then bots will adapt and make features that make it impossible for us to kill them. Please do not make a non-pvp bot killing guide, just share your knowledge amongst friends.

To the gentlemen suggesting a rewrite, you are absolutely wrong. Knowing how bots function DO allow you to curb their usage. GMs would be a lot better off if they knew what to look for, rather than just PMing people suspected of botting like complete morons.

Secondly, I think this article spits all over the NPOV principle. Wikis are supposed to be informative, not opinionative.

A few parts need to be edited,
Cavebot: using this bot is really dangerous as players do usually kill known Cavebotters, or lure stronger monsters on them (on Non-PvP).
It's illegal to purposely lure something on to someone to kill them in non pvp (not sure if same applies to pvp) - regardless if they're botting or not, two wrongs don't make a right.

Runemaker: - same as above

Aimbot: "This bot is also very popular and is mostly used in wars, when pking someone or on OT's(Open Tibia Servers). They basically aim for you and you will always hit The target, in some cases it even fires for you without you having to do anything!"
not only are these useless nowadays, but it shouldn't sound as if it's a good thing, I believe aimbot should be removed from the page.
Also, OTs are illegal, that needs removing, too.

Other: "Bots get more and more advanced. Some of them will do many kinds of things for you, such as healing you automatically, Make you see through walls and in the early days you could use a .dat editor to move walls!"
I don't think past uses are necessary to mention in the wiki, also editing client is illegal itself.
"they can also perform quests (such as the Annihilator Quest), restoring mana and many more. All of these give an unfair advantage to the player, and therefore are all of them illegal."
It sounds enciting for level 100+ to download bots - should also be removed.

Editing the .dat is illegal, OTs are illegal...I don't think CIP would still support this fansite if it contained such things, it needs a rewrite ASAP. I also think protecting the page would be appropriate to avoid further advertising.

Something like this would suffice for the page:
Bots are automated tools which give an unfair advantage, all types are illegal.

I agree, it's a lot better.

--- Outdated, removed (magebomb attack prevention, avoids this being possible): Another sidepoint is this: If you are able to discern the location of the "autologger" before they arrive to that location, you may wait until you are sure that they are afk, and then log in next to them. Most bot software will not respond as quickly to a character that logs in next to it as to one that walks onto the screen and you have an added moment of time to initiate attack before the bot realizes there is another character on the screen.
