[edit] Structure

As far as I can see, there is no real structure in this great article. There are several possible ways to order the page, we can categorize on object or subject, e.g (NPC, Place, Texts, Others) vs. (Literature, Movies, History, Brands, Others). In those categories we can apply alphabetical order. Personally I think the subject focussed structure is nicest to read.
--Borr 19:57 24 July 2006 (CET)

I agree. I wasn't sure how big this page would get when I started it, so I hadn't really thought about a "good" way to organize it. I have tried to keep all of the headings based upon the RL reference, and not the Tibia side of the allusion (this was specifically because of the many references to Lord of the Rings, but has served well for other things, too).

Because it is setup like that now, I like your idea of organizing it by subject. It seems to make the most sense for how/why people would be reading the page.

[edit] Pacman

The screenshot from the Pacman area mentioned it's a fake, right? The Ghouts have names, which means somebody using the Create Illusion spell.

Do you have additional information about this area and where is located?

I think we should enter accurate and real information here.

--Kaio 02:36, 20 March 2006 (CST)

The screenie is from Tibianews, 01/04/2004 PotD. There is no mention in the caption of the pic that it is from tombs (were there tombs in Jan of 04?). I think it's a fun screenshot, nothing more. I've been in all the tombs, and NEVER seen this; besides, it is obviously sand and not tomb tiled floor.

I think it's incorrect info. Besides, wouldn't cip use real walls and not parcels? ;)

--- Digger Smith, Calmera · Talk — 07:07, 20 March 2006 (CST)

Have you seen the actual space in the Tombs? I've been in the tombs too for a while and as far as I could see, there's no space like the one described in the allusion.

Does it really exists? Which tomb is it? Which floor?

--Kaio 12:58, 20 March 2006 (CST)

This area with "pacman" theme really exist. I saw this "pacman board" in real. It's not fake. Ghosts are there really. Same as blueberries, apple and oranges.

--Jura 20:09, 12 July 2006

You can find the Area if you go to the Tarpit tomb, enter the blue flame, and go to the teleporter near the middle. It is clearly inspired by Pacman because of the blueberries, apples and oranges and ghosts. It even has teleporters in the ends that teleports you to the other end :p

[edit] LoTR

Edwin, please check the info you provide before posting. There are a lot of resources to research: google, wikipedia, etc...

Don't input comments like "Don't know if its spelled correctly" in the same article text because diminish the quality of it, and the Wiki itself. Also, you're showing a lack of english grammar. :) In the same way you give comments to other contributors, you should follow the same rules and recommendations.

[edit] Comments

Wow! What a funny page! :D I have been inactive on this wiki for a good 11 months now and I'm glad to see it has progressed greatly. Very fun to see. This article was very fun to read, some nice facts on Tibia. :) Good job guys and keep up the good work!

[edit] Crossbows and Tulips

I saw a a reference to Guns'n'Roses in Wikipedia here. Should it be in the Allusions page?
I haven't seen a tavern of that name so I won't add it.
Mocca-Kahve 08:04, 12 July 2006 (PDT)

[edit] Windows

I found this while looking at some pages :P

You see a grave.
You read: Here lies a window, killed by a penguin.

Someone please add it cause I lack the english to add it =/

[edit] Pink Panther

Jaras added:
NPC Emperor Kruzak's name seems to be an allusion to an inspector Clouseau from "Pink Panther" movie. Note that "Clouseau" pronounces similarily to "kruzo".

Am I the only one that fails to see the allusion here?
Borr 11:08, 27 July 2006 (CET)

I also think it is a very weak reference, if any at all. It does not seem accurate because I see no other similarities between Emperor Kruzak and the Clouseau character in Pink Panther. Maybe if there was some similar function or personality traits it would work, but that does not appear to be the case.

-- WhitelacesTalk † χρισtoς αnεσtη, αληθως αnεσtη -- 05:44, 27 July 2006 (PDT)

Sorry, I'm Polish and in our language when one says "Clouseau", then other hears "kluzo". Some people, as I know, called this inspector: "Crusoe" ([kruzo] in Polish). Moreover, here is Emperor Kruzak, and in the film there was Inspector Clouseau ([inspektor kluzo] in Polish). As you see, all of this is similar to the name of Tibia's NPC. But, for me, it's a similarity only in pronouncing. For every Polish people this would be straight reference. However, if you think it's not good - remove it.

Sorry for my not so well English. ;-)

Greetings.
--
Jaroslaw Krasuski (jaras)

Well another chariteristic is that clouseau (in the cartoon series) was short - DWARF like even..
Craggles

Even though I don't think there's too much in common with "Kruzak" and "Clouseau", I still fail to see what User:Oajng means by saying 'Deleted "Pink Panther" because the Emperor Kruzak was created before the movie of the pink panther'.
I don't know when Emperor Kruzak was installed to the game, but I don't think it's too much before or after the millenium.
In and after the 60's Peter Sellers starred in many "Pink Panther" movies.
So, at least I think it shouldn't have been removed because of that.

[edit] Venorean Guards

The links of the guards namesakes (Arnold, Jean Claude and Sylvester) should point to the English wikipedia entries instead of the Spanish. Would be more universal.

As nobody commented or rejected, I replaced the Spanish links with links to corresponding www.wikipedia.org-pages

[edit] Abbott and Costello?

Abbot Costello in the Isle of the Kings monestary sounds like a allusion to the two-man comedy group [1] "18:01 Costello: I am the abbot of the white raven monastery on the isle of the kings." Or at least that's what I get from it :>
Kharzad Ironfist <—  15:10, 11 September 2006 (PDT)

Considering this is the only monk in tibia (i think) that is referred to as an abbot it probably is intentional. In addition try out keywords and see if he has any comic responses, that would make it more sure. --DM ><((°> Contribs <°))>< talk to me 18:36, 17 April 2006 (CDT) 19:00, 11 September 2006 (PDT)

[edit] Jack the Ripper

Is it really important to name the women Jack the Ripper killed? I think it's really useless info and should be deleted.

I agree, there is no reason to add this since it is completely unrelated to this allusion, if there were female npcs ingame with those names it might be different.

[edit] Christo?

This allusion seems to be very weak. I can vaguely see the connection, but I'm not sure it really belongs on this page.... maybe it would be helpful to have more information about the artist "Christo" so that the connection is more clear.

[edit] Kalvin Klaus?

How is Kalvin, an NPC in a clothing warehouse, an allusion to Klaus Störtebeker, a privateer in the 1200s and 1300s?

Was this just placed under the wrong heading?

-- WhitelacesTalk † χρισtoς αnεσtη, αληθως αnεσtη -- 12:27, 7 November 2006 (PST)

I hope it was, cuz neither can I see any connection between those

Nagatho Goldenflag (talk | contribs) 12:37, 7 November 2006 (PST)

Certainly was intended to go under a different heading... fixed.

[edit] Asgard

In Norse mythology, Asgard (Old Norse: Ásgarðr) is the realm of the gods (from wikipedia)
how does asgard refer to rook? or is it just me not understanding

The only real similarity I see is the last part of the name Asgard and Rookgaard. Other than that, I don't see the allusion.

-- WhitelacesTalk † χρισtoς αnεσtη, αληθως αnεσtη -- 08:09, 20 November 2006 (PST)

[edit] Juggernaut

I think that Juggernaut is an allusions to Juggernaut from the X-Men strips.

Hoola Boola

More likely, the name "Juggernaut" was chosen simply because of the definition of the word (see Juggernaut), and not as an allusion to any one or thing.

It is truly is a reference to the x-men, then there will be something else about the creature (what it looks like, what it says, etc)... not just the name.

-- WhitelacesTalk † χρισtoς αnεσtη, αληθως αnεσtη -- 06:36, 7 December 2006 (PST)

The marvel comics juggernaut was human - I'm not quite sure of the class of the tibian juggernaut but i'm better somethiung majorly different to humanoid

Also, in Dutch (language they speak in Holland), Juggernaut means Moloch, a monster that is eating people.

Hoola Boola

well i'm from Holland and i never heard of a word like Moloch >.< maybe u meen germany?

Kind Regards, Dille 11:16, 18 December 2006 (PST)

I'm from Holland too, and when you look in a English - Dutch dictionary you will find that Juggernaut is Moloch. And then look in a Dutch dictionary at Moloch, you will find that Moloch is a monster that eat children

[edit] Teddy Bear

How is this an allusion? --Tethys of the Angels 22:25, 4 January 2007 (PST)

Well, teddy bears are very popular in some places, a bear shaped doll.. look here to see it by yourself.

-- † Pudd Knight †  Talk  Contribs  -- 06:56, 5 January 2007 (GMT -03:00)

This barely makes sense, I mean the same thing can be said with every item. "Rapiers" exist in real life too, and so do "sabers"! And "dice" and "backpacks" too! The allusions page would be pretty long if we added everything that also exists in real life.

-=Xenophobe McManus=- (talk) 08:12, 17 November 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Bones

I think Bones is an allusion to the tv-serie Bones. A Undead Dragon is of bones because there are no more scales left.

Hoola Boola 19:33, 10 January 2007 (GMT +01:00)

I don't agree. The only similarity I can see is the name, there is no real reason to think CIP was thinking of the TV show when they named this creature.

Instead, I think "Bones" is just a clever name for a creature without flesh.

[edit] Ferumbras

Taken from the Wikipedia page for Fierabras/Ferumbras:

Fierabras (from French a bras fier, "on brave arm") or Ferumbras is a Saracen knight appearing in several chansons de geste and other material relating to the Matter of France. He is the son of Balan, king of Spain, and is frequently shown in conflict with Roland and the Twelve Peers, especially Oliver, whose prowess he easily rivals. Many of the tales have him eventually converting to Christianity and fighting for Charlemagne.

There's more interesting stuff on that page.

Mathias (profile, talk) · Favelets · Formulas — 11:42, 12 January 2007 (PST)

Usually least complex and most straight-forward answer is the correct one.

Also from the same wikipedia page:

Spanish definition of fierabrás: an unruly, evil person, generally applied to naughty kids.

Nice job finding that article, Mathias. How did you stumble upon it?

-- Quelle scarpe sono veramente stupende.
--  Whitelaces †  Talk †  -- 12:20, 12 January 2007 (PST)

Indeed a nice job, If we follow Mathias' way, we can find more allusions for this page, for example, I searched for "Terror Bird", which is the name of an extinct animal called Phorusrhacos. Check the page here

 Ψ Genosonic Ψ   Ψ  My Contributions Ψ   Ψ  Talk Ψ

Thanks guys. I stumbled upon it while I was looking for [an exact definition for "paladin" in Dutch]. Apparently, Ferumbras was in the list of "famous names from the poems of Ariosto and Tasso" on that page, so I thought I'd post here. :)

[edit] Mysterious Voodoo Skull

The Mysterious Voodoo Skull sometimes gives the fortune "Do or do not. There is no try." Isn't this a famous quote from the legendary Jedi Master Yoda from Star Wars?

[edit] Theodore Loveless

Is Theodore Loveless an allusion to Theodore "T-bag" Bagwell from Prison Break? In episode Tweener he says this: some dogs, with running noses, that nobody loves. Hoola

[edit] Pits of Inferno Graveyard

I think there are many allusions at the Pits of Inferno Graveyard, such as Hannibal L. is Hannibal Lecter from some films like Silence of the Lambs, Havid Dasselhoff is David Hasselhoff, Gill Bates is Bill Gates, Jason of the Argonauts, Rambo I-III of the Rambo films, Tel'e Kom of Telecom, Cin Wrach could be an allusion to the crash of Alberto Ascari, Derver Sown is Server down and Al C. could be Ali Chemicali.

.......

I would rather think its 'win(dows) crash' and Al Capone

[edit] The Gold Bug

Bugs drop gold. One of Edgar Allen Poe's more famous short stories is "The Gold Bug". The only reason I'm not sure this is an allusion is that almost all monsters drop gold.

Bombur Thumper 11:59, 22 May 2007 (PDT)

[edit] Goroma

Could it be related to the city in old bible, I mean the one of the two cities that were destroyed by God according to the old bible. There was 2 towns, Gomorra and Sodoma. They sound a bit similiar, aight? :D

Maybe... Gomorrah was destroyed by Fire and Brimstone, and Goroma is a desolate island filled with fire in the volcano.

I dunno... it might be a little stretch, but it is a stronger connection than some other allusions people have put up there.

I'm okay with you adding that one.

[edit] The Knight's Templar

[edit] Captain Jack

Captain Jack in The Isle of the Kings is an alllusion to the Billy Joel song "Captain Jack". If anyone is willing to add it, please do so.

[edit] Shenlong Sword

The name Shenlong is an allusion to a dragon called by the same name in the TV series Dragon Ball, in which the dragon granted one wish to the person who summoned him after gathering all Dragon Balls scattered around the planet Earth. The name also refers to a chinese mythical dragon that controls the weather, it's depicted as such in the TV series.

http://www.shenlongonline.net/ All the info you need to know about Shenlong dragons. (if you don't wanna follow the link just go to yahoo or google and search shenlong it should be near the top i would imagine) Personally, i would doubt if they were thinking about dragon ball when they made the shenlong blade, rather the actual mythology. they constantly bring a mixture of various mythologies together in this game.

comeon guys some of this is just bullshit and some like witches, lions and wardrobes are just coincidence, there are some things that are clearly that cip has stolen thats still not here, like the girl sleeping in a room below kazordoon with 7 dwarfs and an appel spawn in it and i dont remeber her name right now but shes clearly sleepingbeauty, the girl locked up in femur tower are clearly rapunzel, hugo the demon bunny from montypyton the holy grale just like every question in the paradox tower

About the answers in Paradox Tower Quest. I can't see any connection to Monty Python and the Holy Grail. I've seen the movie probably about 20 times and I tried to google the answers now but the only thing I found was Tibia related pages.

[edit] Maze of Lost Souls

I noticed there are two Maze of Lost Souls references. One describes a little known 15-year-old attraction in an amusement park in New Hampshire, USA. I highly, highly, doubt this was Cipsoft's inspiration. The second names Ursula Le Guin's "The Tombs of Atuan" as an allusion, which makes sense considering they're both mazes, but in Le Guin's book the tombs are an ancient part of a temple that worships and evil god whose strength itself keeps the tombs alive. In Tibia it's just a maze. Kharzad Ironfist 04:25, 18 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Edron Magic Academy NPCs

Some of these are quite the stretch, but I noticed that several NPCs in the magic academy were obviously named after magicians, so I figured most of them should be.
Alexander might be a reference to the famous Alexander([2]), since the only item he buys is a crystal ball, Alexander's trademark.
Gundralph sounds like the famous Gandalf from The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit.
Ursula is a bit of a stretch, but in The Little Mermaid, Ursula was the name of the witch that in the original story gave the mermaid a potion to give her legs, and in the movie turned her into a human. In the book she's noted simply as a "sea witch," which could mean anything, but her costume is that of a witch in game.
Zoltan is the original famous fortune telling machine ([3]), which has since spawned several spin-off fortune machines.
I don't know if I'm the only one that thinks these apply, but it looks possible to me. Kharzad Ironfist 04:25, 18 June 2008 (UTC)
